About Steve Tierney
His selling career started by selling advertising door-to-door for local businesses - what he still considers some of the best sales training one can get. Getting a door slammed in your face will do wonders for improving your selling skills. He then moved into telemarketing selling oil & gas investments to individual investors, making 200+ calls per day. In the process, he learned how to bring the benefits of what he's selling to the attention of the buyer quickly to grab their interest before they hung up the phone.
Entrepreneurship came calling in the form of starting up new sales and marketing-oriented businesses in the oil & gas, real estate and advertising industries. Timing is always a key in the success of startups. Launching a new oil & gas business and real estate firm in the mid-80's in the midst of tax reforms for oil & gas investments and an overbuilt real estate market proved to be quite challenging. The silver lining, however, was more strategic selling tactics, refined cold calling methods, and a more intense focus on his clients’ primary objectives and matching resources to help them accomplish their goals.
The advertising industry, however, rose above all others. He achieved some initial successes that built a strong foundation from which to grow. It was, and is - fun. Most of the selling and strategic thinking skills he acquired from previous positions came together in advertising sales; thereby allowing him to succeed quickly and sustain that success over a long period of time.
He has personally represented Inc.(14 years), Car And Driver (9 years), Road & Track (9 years), Sporting News (5 years), Family Handyman (3 years), Motor Trend (5 years), Automobile (4 years) along with a host of online properties including the digital sites for the above print brands. In addition, integrated program sales leveraging resources across, print, online, events, custom publishing, direct mail, and more have become his specialty.
He has been married to Susan for 24 years and has two children, a daughter 18 and a son 14.
